In control of Legionella prevention

THE PROBLEM

The City Council of Bunschoten, responsible for the safety of multiple public buildings including town halls, harbour offices, and daycare centers, struggled with ensuring accurate and consistent Legionella control.

Previously, renters managed their own testing, which led to unreliable results and inconsistent monitoring.

As a result, there were concerns about maintaining compliance with water safety regulations, especially given the manual nature of the task, which made it prone to errors and delays.

Roel Meurs, the Estates Supervisor at Bunschoten Town Council, had previously worked in a housing corporation where he saw firsthand the importance of effective Legionella prevention.

At Bunschoten, he decided to take back full responsibility for Legionella control and needed a solution that could ensure safety across multiple sites.

“The greatest benefit is that the app automatically records all the readings straight away. Fiddling the system is simply no longer possible.” - Roel Meurs

THE SOLUTION

Roel implemented LegionellaDossier to streamline water safety management. The software provided several key benefits:

Overview and Control

The platform gave Roel and his team a centralised digital dossier, where they could track all control measures, temperature readings, and lab results in real-time.

Roel explained, “We now have a central overview of all our prevention activities. We can respond much more rapidly in the event of a discrepancy.”

This level of visibility ensured that no checks were missed, and all documentation was stored in one place, making it easy for regulatory authorities to verify compliance.

30% Time Saving

LegionellaDossier automated much of the data entry process, significantly reducing the time spent on manual tasks.

Roel’s team could now monitor 12 buildings in 30% less time compared to the previous system, allowing them to focus on other critical tasks.

“It saves me a lot of time and stress,” Roel shared, highlighting the operational efficiency gained from the system.

Ease of Adoption

Despite initial skepticism from staff, LegionellaDossier proved to be highly user-friendly.

The ability to add new buildings, such as the recently built fire station, was straightforward, with risk assessments and management plans easily integrated into the system.

Roel noted, “It’s a piece of cake,” emphasising how the intuitive nature of the platform reduced errors and improved productivity.

“LegionellaDossier is backed by a large network of service providers, consultants, and installation companies. All in all, a formidable team and highly reassuring.” - Roel Meurs

LOOKING INTO THE FUTURE

With LegionellaDossier now implemented across 12 buildings, Roel plans to expand its use to all properties managed by the council.

The system has already proven its value, especially with the automation of temperature checks using Bluetooth thermometers.

Roel visits high-priority sites like the harbour office weekly to ensure compliance and feels confident that the system will continue to keep residents and visitors safe.

Roel appreciates how a large network of partners, consultants, and installation companies backs LegionellaDossier, ensuring that it’s both reliable and well-supported.

As Bunschoten continues to grow, Roel is excited to leverage this system to maintain high safety standards and streamline water safety management even further.
